A simultaneous translation service is conducted by translator using a pair of headphones and speaks into a microphone. Strictly speaking, "simultaneous" is a misnomer: the translator cannot start translating until he or she understands the general meaning of the sentence. Depending for example, on how far apart in the sentence to be translated the subject and the verb are located, the translator may not be able to utter even a single word until he or she has heard the entire sentence!
Many times recording a hearing, conference or special event and processing the audio through transcription may not meet your turnaround requirements. Often, if more than one individual is speaking at the same time, the transcriptionist will be unable to make out the audio, leaving you with an incomplete transcript. To assist with getting 100% of the spoken word, GRL Research can supply simultaneous transcribers to convert the spoken word into text, realtime. What is simultaneous transcription service?
Simultaneous transcription is the general term for transcription by simultaneous transcribers using computer aided technologies to deliver computer text screens within a few seconds of the words being spoken.
Typically, simultaneous transcribers can produce text using computers at the rate of at least 200 words per minute. Stenographers can typically type up to 300 words per minute for short periods of time, but most cannot sustain such a speed.
